We very much appreciate your wanting to be a supporter! Supporters pay for the entire site. We don't carry any annoying ads, so we don't need to scrape every bit of personal data we can about you, to sell to advertisers.
There are lots of benefits to becoming a supporter. The Upgrade page in the main menu lists them (it's hidden once you're a supporter, so nobody pays twice):

Renewing and cancelling
Payments renew automatically after the first one, so you never lose your supporter extras. When your support ends, the Upgrade option comes back in the Settings menu, and you can renew straight away.
You can cancel the renewal at any time with the Cancel billing subscription link in your account settings. Because CCBill handles the payments, you can also cancel through CCBill's consumer support.
